Ladies and gentlemen

Good morning

Today is another significant milestone in the history of Nexus Resort Karambunai. When the resort was first opened in 1998, we had set ourselves the goal to be one of the premier beach resorts in Malaysia. We had the location – an unrivaled stretch of beach with uninterrupted views of the South China Sea; forest clad hills with lagoons and inlets; and the privacy of a peninsula all to ourselves. Add to that, a championship golf course and spa to make a dream vacation a reality.

However, location and facilities alone do not make a resort. It is the people – the staff, who has stayed loyal to Nexus and have grown into a family unit that we fondly call The Nexus Family. We have come a long way in the last 10 years to enhance our services and facilities to cater to the high expectations of our guests.

There have been many challenges to keep up with new and developing trends in the hospitality industry. Dreams, expectations, and needs of travelers change with the season. And we at Nexus, must also do the same.

Ladies and gentlemen

The spa industry has seen a tremendous surge of development in Malaysia over the last decade. It is a global trend that has taken a firm foothold here as evidenced by the many spa services that are available in the local market today.

Two years after the resort was completed, the Borneo Spa opened its doors to its first clients. This was back in 2000 and we were one of the pioneer resorts in Sabah to introduce spa as part of the holiday experience. It has been an eventful nine years and now, we have come to the threshold of another pioneering event.

We have brought a 5,000 year old practice called Ayurveda (the science of life) to Borneo Spa and with that, we will be the only resort spa in Sabah to offer such an experience.

I would like to announce officially that we are now called Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai and we aim to be the first resort to lead the way in establishing ourselves as a health and wellness resort destination in Sabah.

Our Director of Spa, Dr Arun Pillai is an Ayurvedic practitioner himself and he and his team has come up with a long-term plan to further develop Borneo Spa as an integral part of the resort’s profile.

Throughout this morning, we will indulge you with a sample of the health and wellness programmes that is and will be available at Borneo Spa.
