Burgers for charity at Nexus Resort

The latest promotion at Penyu Restaurant is aimed at giving back to the community. From May till July this year, RM1 from every order of a Beef Burger, Crab Cake Burger, Mexican Burger, Grilled Chicken Breast Burger or Catch of the Sea will be donated to the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Centre Tamparuli.

Committee members of the centre, Puan Joana Sinteh, Mr Yabin Sinduman and Mr Suadin Kogi lunched on these charity burgers to get a taste of this special promotion. According to Ms Joana, the centre receives a grant from the State Welfare Department to pay for the staff salaries, rental of their premises and bills. However, other expenses such as toiletries and disposable diapers have to be borne through donations.

The Community Based Rehabilitation Centre in Tamparuli was set up 6 years ago to encourage parents of children with disabilities to participate in their rehabilitation programme. The centre has three staff who are trained to provide therapy for the children either at the centre or in their homes for the more severely disabled. The number of home based children, meaning those who are sent to the centre daily, has increased to 25 from 22 last year. And the total number of children that are visited in their homes due to inability to travel is now more than 40.

“We are grateful to organizations that are generous enough to offer help and hope this charity drive will be successful,” says Puan Joana. And what is her favourite burger? “The Mexican Burger!” The charity burgers are available at Penyu Restaurant and Splashes Pool Bar daily until July 31, 2009.
