Nexus Resort Staff Gotong Royong
17 March 2008

The white sandy beach of Karambunai peninsula got a much needed clean-up today by more than 90 staff of Nexus Resort Karambunai. Staff of Gregarwarni, who is responsible for keeping the immaculate grounds of the resort in superb condition, also took part to ensure their hard work is mirrored by an equally well kept beachfront.

The gotong-royong, which lasted 2 hours, was carried out along a 2km stretch of beach from the resort. The west coast has some of the most spectacular stretches of beach in Sabah including the Karambunai peninsula. Indiscriminate littering and improper waste disposal among coastal communities continue to be a challenge to keep these stretches pristine. As the government continues to work towards increasing environmental awareness among the public, Nexus Resort acknowledges its role to complement these efforts by being proactive in the fight against littering.

During the gotong-royong, about 300 bags of garbage made up mostly of plastic items, bottles and packaging as well as debris that have been washed ashore. Safety and Security Manager, Mr Ravi Pillai who chairs the N.E.A.T (Nexus Environmental Action Team) committee organized the clean-up. This is a regular exercise participated by both the management and rank and file staff in support of  N.E.A.T’s objective to instill a high level of environmental awareness is achieved and practiced among all staff of Nexus Resort.
