Christmas joy for San Damiano at Nexus Resort

KOTA KINABALU, 9 January 2008 – Sixty youths of San Damiano hostel in Kiulu were treated to a Christmas party at Nexus Resort Karambunai on 5 January 2008. It was the first week of school re-opening and it was a great ice-breaker for many of the students who have just made new friends at their new school. The younger ones were obviously shy but the games, magic show and clowns creating fun designs with balloons helped put them at ease throughout the event.

Transportation was provided by Wildlife Expeditions who ferried the students to Nexus Resort where they were greeted by the General Manager, Mr Peter Sprenger.

“It is always a pleasure to see happy smiling children and especially during this season of Christmas and New Year” says Mr Sprenger. He stayed for lunch with the students and presented the prizes to the winning teams in the games arranged for them by staff of the Sports & Recreation Centre.

Santa Claus and Santarina made a surprise appearance to the delight of the children as they enjoyed a sumptuous Christmas brunch spread of salads, pizza, burgers, chicken boxing, seafood kebabs, gingerbread, ice cream, ice kacang and other Christmas goodies. Fun games had everyone rolling with laughter particularly the Christmas Dress-up and Build a Snowman. Most of the students had never even seen a picture of a snowman but did a wonderful job of improvising with the given materials.

Carolers from Nexus Resort sang a medley of Christmas songs followed by a performance by the students themselves. A request for a popular Kadazandusun song opened the floor for an impromptu Sumazau dance which was enthusiastically performed by Nexus staff and the students.

The day ended with a quick tour of the resort before they were waved off by Mr Peter Sprenger and staff of Nexus Resort.
